Space Debates

Who’s in charge of space? How do we build a good society on the Moon? How do we share the benefits of space equitably on Earth? In Space Debates, you make the call! A Moonshot educator tees up contemporary space issues with brief science demonstrations and visuals for context. Then, students role-play as members of their own Cosmic City Council, debating and voting on space policy. In Round 1, students explore the opportunities and challenges of Earth-orbiting space missions through the lenses of technology, medicine, ecology, and law. In Round 2, students imagine themselves as leaders of a futuristic Moon base crafting a lunar charter for their community. Students are tasked with deciding questions on immigration, resource scarcity, crime, culture, and government.
